Over the years family, friends, and acquaintances have expressed curiosity about my cameo obsession. This blog site was created so that I might share some of the cameos in my personal collection with you. I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures!
Hi Jaunito!!! Thanks for all the great pictures and background on cameos. AND thank you for the one you gave me a few years back that I truly treasure. It is great to see you to have such a passion for something so beautiful and meaningful. Love you!
This is the most beautiful agate carving of a bacchante in multiple strata that I have ever seen! Bacchantes were the followers of Bacchus and a very popular subject.
Tortoise shell carving of Bacchus
The carving was probably part of a set that included matching earrings.
Agate cameo
Julius Caesar
Unframed Bacchante
cameo of unsurpassing beauty!
Priam pleads with Achilles for return of Hector's body
Trojan War subject
Allegory of Night (Nyx)
This was a very popular subject!
Full frontal Zeus with lightning bolt
A most incredible find! The 3-dimensional carving is extremely rare and took great skill to carve.
The artist Raffaello
Although this cameo appears to be carved from lava, it is not. The medium remains a mystery to me. It may even be some type of plastic!
French cameo of Menelaos
Trojan War subject
Agate carving of the goddess Flora
A masterpiece in pink stone (multiple strata)!
Tiara
Zeus-Bacchus-Hermes. This tiara was originally part of a parure set that probably consisted of a necklace, brooch, earrings, a bracelet or two, and maybe a ring.
Hector's Farewell
Trojan War Subject
Giovanni Pascoli
Italian poet. A remarkable cameo!
Alexander the Great
Angel in French chiseled frame
Seated cherub painting
My very best cameo!!!
my daughter Erin
Agate carving of a bacchante (three strata)
Agate carving of Zeus with rubies (yummy)!
Agate carving of Apollo
Agate carving of Ganymede and Zeus
XXX-rare
Luigi Saulini cameo
This is a mourning cameo. It forms part of an arm band consisting of woven hair, probably from the body of the cameo subject, Lord Bentinck.
Agate Bacchus carved by Berini
This is a small but well executed carving by Berini who was commissioned by the Bonaparte family. The green enamel frame has survived in pristine condition.
Allegory of Day and Night
An extremely popular subject!
Bacchus and Ariadne
It is rare to find side-by-side carvings of Bacchus and his wife Ariadne. This neoclassical carving is masterfully executed.
Nemesis Accompanied by the Genii of Punishment and Reward
the best of the best! After a bas-relief by the Danish sculptor, Thorvaldsen.
Neptune
astonishing detail!
Psyche and Eros earrings
Eros was sent to punish Psyche, but he accidently pierced himself with his arrow, which caused him to fall in love with her. The butterflies you see represent the soul. The setting is pinchbeck.
Eros and lion
This is a French cameo and very large.
Medusa
Everybody loves Medusa! Just don't look her in the eyes or you'll turn to stone.
This is an amazing site. It stirs my heart with the sheer power of the beauty of all these pieces. thanks for sharing.
